Day 13 - 3rd July 2026

When I said an early start, 4am is a bit of an understatement. I managed to get up, make a brew and get the day started by packing down all the bits and pieces that I have for the trip. I was ready to go at just before 5am and set off.

The drive to the Tarbet Ferry was uneventful, but the weather on the tops of the mountains was still a bit ropey.

I arrived in plenty of time for the ferry and sat playing some games until it was my turn to load up. A few motorbikes, with one seriously needing to replace his exhaust, and a line of cars were waved on. Then it was my turn. I followed the directions and was put into position right at the front of the ferry next to the unloading ramp. This means I am first off the ferry. How many people could I annoy by driving really slowly?

I always head up to the ferry and get in line for breakfast. I managed to be first in line and had a lovely cooked brekky. I then had a wander around the boat and stood outside for a bit. There was a bit of swell in the loch but nothing too much to make me nauseous.

The ferry docked and I set off leading the procession of other vehicles. Surprisingly, I wasn't overtaken by any cars or vans from the boat, just a couple of sports bikes.

The drive over Skye and then through the Kyle of Lochalsh was stunning as usual. The journey took a while though, not helped by a swing bridge being opened on the Caledonian Canal to let a boat through.

I did arrive in Bunree a touch early (by about 10 mins) so pulled into a layby until the appropriate time.

Once into the site, I again managed to get a prime spot right against the loch, which has allowed me to watch the comings and goings down Loch Linnhe.
