Day 6 - 26th June 2026
Friday saw a slowish start to the day and on the road for about 8am. There were a few decisions to make as to destination, but first was what to eat for breakfast.
A trip into Stornoway and I popped into Beckett and Sons. A very nice eggs Benedict and latte was eaten and then it was off on some adventures. I decided to go somewhere new for a change and this was Port of Ness.
Having never been here before, it was a longish drive to the village that took you through some stunning landscapes. The area is different from the southern part of the main islands and is more flat. You noticed people out on the peat lands harvesting some. The road was typically straight with a few small turns here and there; a reflection on the flatter landscape.
There is not a lot of space to park in Port of Ness, but I managed to find a spot for the motorhome and took a quick walk down to the harbour and beach. The tide was out and the boats were listing to the side on the sand of the harbour bottom.
Back into the car and I head back towards Stornoway but took a couple of stops here and there to take in the landscape.
Once in Stornoway, I visited Western Isles Hospital again and got a brew and helped set up a couple of the IT things required for the ALS course running the following week.
After that, we both went to pick up a Chinese and head back to Ruth’s house.
The trip was starting to take its toll on me and I was getting really tired so I headed back to the motorhome early and fell asleep quite quickly. I managed to get about 4 hours sleep until both my bladder and the heavens decided to wake me up. The thunderstorm that was going on nearby was quite incredible. Lightning was turning darkness into daylight and the thunder was rumbling right through the van. I managed to get back off to sleep and woke up at a reasonable time.
